When Liam Bates volunteered to visit lonely patients at his local hospital, he expected them to be able to talk back when he chatted to them. But, when he’s assigned to visit a comatose man, he soon finds himself spilling out his whole life story in an effort to fill the silence. It’s not long before the peace and comfort he finds in the man’s hospital room becomes Liam’s refuge from an increasingly hostile world.

Vampire Marcus Corrigan has been trapped inside his paralyzed body for over three years, unable to communicate with anyone. The chatty young man who visits Marcus quickly captivates him, and Liam’s softly spoken words soon have him determined to rescue the boy from his current life, but, unable to move a muscle, all Marcus can actually do is lay there and listen.

There’s only one thing that can wake up Marcus. There’s only one thing that can save Liam’s sanity. Everything is about to change for them both, and it will change with a kiss.

With a Kiss edition by Kim Dare Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Kim Dare is kind of hit or miss to me mostly a hit but this one really hit the mark with me. Dominant vampire, abused submissive I absolutely loved it.
I really enjoyed this book. I'm not usually a fan of BDSM style stories, but that aspect of the main characters' relationship was mild yet enhancing to the care between them. I love the white knight Marcus is to Liam, especially since he wouldn't have been that way with anyone else. I also love the way Liam pulls out the caring that is deep within Marcus. I would love a follow-up to this book. It would be great to see more of Marcus and Liam together )
This book was a really good read. The only reason I didn't give it a five star rate is, I thought it was a little slow in some areas. The character are great to get to know and you hear from both sides which I love. The pace again was ok I wish it was a little faster but hey I'm alittle picky. I love how the character try to work with each other on some times and care about each other too. It was a good read though. I would read from this author again.
A nice fairytale where Liam's kiss awakens Marcus from his coma. I loved the premise that Liam had been visiting Marcus for 6 months and sharing his deepest thoughts and secrets with him. I loved the idea that a vampire could fall in love because of this, something that would not usually happen. I loved how Marcus and his actions where portrayed versus how the abusive Ralph behaved. "Seeing Ralph and Marcus standing side by side, the differences between the two men were obvious - and they had nothing to do with the ability to drink blood."
4.5 stars
This was a great read. The characters were beautifully portrayed and stayed 'real' to their life experiences through out the entire story. The development of their relationship was wonderful too. It wasn't rushed but flowed through a natural progression that made Liam's healing seem believable and not contrived. Other reviewers stated that they found the character Marcus cold and aloof but if you read between the lines to understand how aberant his behaviour is for a vampire you can see that in the context of his species he is gushing and romantic by comparason.

This story hangs together so very well. The author has managed to create a believable world and society where the reader can relax into the fantasy without any major contradictions or plot holes to jerk you out of the book. Although Liam's life was brutal and desperately unhappy prior to hooking up with Marcus, the book isn't dark and sad but rife with love, caring, sexual healing and passion.

The BDSM elements are very light and 'appropriate' given the authors twist to the vampire character and what he experiences whilst feeding (can't say more or I will spoil the story). Overall this was a worthwhile and satisfying read. I was suprised by how much I enjoyed it given the mixed reviews I read prior to buying it. This is a book I will read again and I happily recommend you give it a try. Off to download Duck now...
This is my second favorite Kim Dare book, after Axel's Pup. Normally vampires aren't my thing but with a domestic violence relationship, and finding love and trust after leaving that person, I knew I wanted to read this one. Unlike a lot of Kim Dare books this one doesn't have a lot of sex in it which was great because the story didn't need it. There's still sex and kink of course but the main focus is healing and protecting the person you love and this author didn't resort to the magical healing sex bit that a lot of people do. Also, as someone that has been through a DV relationship, this character was well written, his actions completely understandable, and at times I had to sit back and really breathe because he felt that real and I didn't want to go back to that place again but I had to see him come out okay.
This shared certain similarities with Kim Dare's Duck, a book I liked a great deal a strong dominant male, a very submissive, "lost-boy" hero, great chemistry. Despite the paranormal theme and the magic kiss of the title, this did not feel nearly so much like a fairy tale, mostly because the picture we receive of Liam's abuse is so harrowing--the constant reflex to look for the door of a room, the compulsive need to apologize, the hyper-awareness of where his abuser is in the house. It was totally compelling and scary, so much that the book really did not feel like a paranormal to me.

Marcus' personality is closely tied to his being a vampire, but then again, almost the only thing we learn about vampires here is that they drink blood and they are really dominant with their human pets. Generally I love uber-alpha characters, and Marcus does not disappoint. Like a lot of Lost-boy heroes, Liam was almost too submissive for me. It is totally explained by the abuse, but he is so lost and so--I have to use the word naive though with caveat that he's obviously seen some pretty horrible stuff--but he's so naive you start to feel like you live in a totally different reality. But I thought Dare developed their relationship very well, especially the sex and D/s elements, where she really makes you believe that Liam would want to give over control to someone he trusted.

I definitely liked the book, but I found it an odd mix of elements. No question the picture of abuse was extremely well-done-- truly scary and all-too believable.
